Chanda + Teroi’s Seattle Fire Department Engagement photos celebrate their over ten-year love story. This couple’s session is so special because it went outside the norm in terms of location. But also because when it came to the style of their engagement photos, we focused on creating a shoot that was a bit more elevated!
Chanda and Teroi both have careers working in service. Chanda as a school principal and Teroi as a medic. So when I talked to them about scheduling this session I highly encouraged them to approach it as if they were getting ready to go out to an event. I talked to Chanda about getting her makeup done by a professional makeup artist. And we talked about wardrobe for both Chanda and Teroi so that they could show up feeling like the best version of themselves. Between their careers and their beautiful children at home, I knew that I wanted to make this session about celebrating the love they share. So taking that extra step to make it feel like they were out for a day date was the perfect approach to set the tone for their engagement session!
Rember how I mentioned that this session was a celebration of their 10-year love story? It’s true! The bride and groom-to-be first locked eyes with each other while attending the same charity event. It wasn’t until later that they set up their first date. Which took place all the way back in 2011!

It’s not uncommon that I meet my couples in Pioneer Square for their engagement photos. It’s a popular location in Seattle filled with art galleries, coffee shops, trendy bars, and the picturesque Waterfall Garden Park. Basically, it provides an endless stream of opportunities with varying backdrops and a fun downtown vibe! But I recognized that we had the opportunity to do something special with Chanda and Teroi, by shooting the bulk of their session at Firehouse 10.
For the first half of their session, we did take advance of shooting around Pioneer Square for a bit. But after that, it was straight over to Firehouse 10. You wouldn’t know it by looking at their photos, but it was so cold on the day of their shoot. Chanda even had a blanket on between shots. But the day was filled with so much sunlight (at both locations!) that it created the scene for what appeared to be a beautiful, crisp afternoon in Seattle. The gorgeous sunlight paired with the distinct red sheen of the Seattle Fire Department trucks gave their engagement photos a beautifully elevated look!
