Chris and Mariko’s engagement photos at the Amazon Spheres were an epic adventure!
The Amazon Spheres quickly became a Seattle landmark after they were built in 2018. The spheres are three conservatories located on part of the Amazon headquarters campus in Seattle. They were built to provide Amazon employees with an inspiring place to work or lounge. But they combine their purpose as a workspace with modern art and a botanical escape!
The inside of the spheres contains over 40,000 plants from 50 different countries, divided into three different areas. In addition to the gorgeous, tropical, and rare botanicals (they have a corpse flower!) there is also a cafeteria and several breakout spaces to lounge or work. Or, in our case, to capture engagement photos! One of the seating areas looks like a bird’s nest suspended high in the air. Naturally, I stopped here with Chris and Mariko to use this space as a backdrop for part of their session!
The Amazon Spheres are typically reserved for Amazon employees and not open to the public. With the exception of the first and third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. PST, with a confirmed reservation that allows you to visit for one hour. However, if you have a friend who is a badged Amazon employee, they are allowed to bring up to 6 guests with them inside the Amazon Spheres, which is how we were able to capture Chris & Mariko’s engagement photos!

Chris and Mariko met as co-workers. Chris is a project manager, and Mariko is an interior designer. Although their working relationship started as just that, a working relationship, over time they became friends and eventually made the leap from friends to soul mates! The proposal went down on a trip to their favorite city, San Francisco! During their trip, they biked from Fisherman’s Wharf to Sausalito. Which, by the way, is a two-hour bike ride! After the bike ride, Chris insisted that they go on a hike together. As you can imagine, Mariko was a bit hesitant but eventually agreed. During their hike, and beside a picturesque fountain, Chris popped the question! Mariko, said yes, and the entire time Chris was recording the proposal so they could later share it with their friends and family. Isn’t that so thoughtful?!
While we were planning for their engagement photos at the Amazon Spheres, Mariko told me that their upcoming wedding will be held at Rays Boat House. The couple has been busy putting together their shades of berry wedding and planning for their happily ever after! But for now, you can scroll through the blog below to get an inside view of their engagement photos at the Amazon Spheres in Seattle.
