You might be surprised to know that Samantha + Thanh’s Pioneer Square Engagement Session happened on their six-year dating anniversary!
I love it when my couples dress up for their engagement session, and I always highly encourage it. In fact, I tell my couples that dressing up for their session changes the overall look and feel of the shoot, and it’s true. But Samantha and Thanh came dressed to impress because we just so happened to book their session on the same day they were celebrating their anniversary! I brought them a celebratory bottle of champagne for the occasion. Because any love story that can survive hunkering down together during the pandemic, but comes out stronger in the end, is a love worth celebrating!
Samantha and Thanh’s story goes all the way back to elementary school, where they first met. But, it wasn’t until high school that they started to notice each other. Thanh was a year ahead of Samantha and became her TA in science class. I’d like to say that’s when sparks flew, but that didn’t happen until a few years later. As luck would have it, they reconnected at a local LA Fitness where they encouraged each other to take hip-hop dance classes. It wasn’t long before sparks flew and they knew that they had each found “the one”.

They later picked out an engagement ring together. Although Samantha was somewhat in the know, Thanh still wanted it to be the proposal to be a surprise. He waited until their first post-pandemic trip together to Greyland Beach, where he popped the question.
Pretty soon, they began making plans for their upcoming wedding, during which time they reached out to me. They told me about their plans for a wedding at Rock Creek Gardens in Puyallup. They were hoping for cotton candy skies, and an amazing garden wedding to celebrate their union. As they began to divulge their wedding day plans, the conversation shifted to planning their engagement session.
We planned to meet in Pioneer Square for their engagement session, and like my other couples, I drew inspiration from our surroundings for Samantha and Thanh. However, this time, there was a special twist. We were invited into The Glasshouse Studio to shoot a portion of their engagement session. There was gorgeous, colorful, handblown glass all around us and I couldn’t imagine a more stunning backdrop for Samantha and Thanh’s engagement session!
After our time in Pioneer Square, we walked through the streets and down to the waterfront. We finished our session with a view of the Seattle Great Wheel behind us! Samantha and Thanh will be married this coming fall, to get a glimpse of their engagement session at Pioneer Square, scroll through the photos in the blog below.
