This Museum of Flight wedding in Seattle was a beautiful day of celebration, an epic party, and one unforgettable wedding day takeoff!

Emily and Jovon’s Museum of Flight wedding in Seattle was a beautiful day of celebration. It was all topped off with amazing details and one unforgettable party. I am beyond grateful that I was by their side for every step of their journey. From documenting their engagement to the take off exit on their wedding day, Emily & Jovon’s love is one of a kind. And it all began during a chance meeting at a local bar.

Emily was enjoying a girls night out, and Jovon happened to be in town for work. As luck would have it, their chance meeting happened just before the lockdowns we experienced as part of the pandemic. But, wanting to explore their connection and see more of each other, they found probably one of the most exceptional ways to enjoy a ‘date out’ in Seattle. Among his many talents, Jovon just so happens to be a pilot. Instead of the traditional date night out on the town with dinner and drinks, instead, Jovon took to the skies. He flew Emily all over Washington, including Whidbey Island and the San Juan Islands, so they could get to know each other on a deeper level. It all happened when the rest of the world was quietly shut away.

Their connection grew, and during a trip exploring Europe (Munich, Amsterdam, and London) Jovon asked for Emily’s hand in marriage. From there, they set out to plan an incredibly well-detailed wedding day that honored their early days. It seemed only fitting that the Museum of Flight in Seattle would host their wedding ceremony and reception. The Museum of Flight showcases a collection of historic aircraft along with its function as an active working airport known as Boeing Field. Seattle is home to Boeing’s headquarters. In fact, the Museum of Flight’s ‘red barn’ is the original building the Boeing company called home.

The Museum of Flight is open to the public, but as a wedding venue, it’s an awe-inspiring space. The reception area features aircraft hanging just above the dance floor. There are exhibits and displays around every corner. Making wedding day photos at this venue stunning works of art that highlight the history of flight while honoring your love story. As a Seattle native, I was familiar with the museum, but seeing it from the perspective of a pilot (on their wedding day) was an experience I will never forget. However, Emily and Jovon’s wedding day at the Museum of Flight in Seattle actually started in their getting ready suites at the Hyatt.

When I arrived, Emily was slipping into her wedding dress with her mother and sister by her side. She and Jovon decided to forgo a first look on their wedding day and instead meet at the altar. However, Emily wanted to share a first look with her Dad. The terrace of her hotel, which overlooks the water, was a beautiful location for Emily and her Dad to share this moment. During the first look, Emily gifted her Dad a beautiful tie clip, and they were both deeply overcome with emotion.

Meanwhile, Jovon shared a private moment with his father as well. Jovon’s Dad is a retired barber. On his wedding day, Jovon asked Dad if he could line him up in the morning. While in their getting ready suite, Dad was there to make sure Jovon was wedding day-ready and picture perfect. But as the moment unfolded, I realized it was so much more. It was a deeply felt moment between father and son on a day that was a big turning point in Jovon’s life.

The Ceremony

With Emily and Jovon’s wedding day ready, it was time for their Museum of Flight wedding ceremony. Emily and her father waited in a nearby space before they made their way down the aisle, and nerves were running high. The venue space of the Museum of Flight is entirely private, however, the museum (usually) remains open to the public even during private events. There was some foot traffic around us prior to entering the ceremony space, and Emily’s wedding day butterflies were at an all-time high. Sensing this, she and her father took each other’s hands, closed their eyes, and took a deep cleansing breath, letting the “noise” wash away. The moment was just what was needed to make their way down the aisle.

As Emily descended the aisle with her father by her side, Jovon was overwhelmed at the sight of his gorgeous bride. Their wedding ceremony unfolded with an incredible amount of sentiment and detail. Emily and Jovon are a blended family, including two beautiful children who were an important part of their wedding vows. During their vows, they performed a symbolic unity ceremony with one additional surprise for the children. Emily’s vows included a surprising, heartwarming speech that honored the children’s presence in her life and in her heart. To top it off, she gifted them each with a locket to finalize the ceremony. Emily and Jovon were pronounced in marriage, and an epic wedding day celebration awaited.

To call Emily and Jovon’s wedding reception at the Museum of Flight in Seattle a celebration would be an understatement. It was an all-out party! The night kicked off when their wedding planners, joined by the wedding party, dressed as flight attendants and held light strobes to usher in the newlyweds. There was a first dance, a remarkable speech by the best man and so much dancing! Not a single guest occupied the chairs as everyone took the dance floor, with aircraft hanging overhead, to celebrate Emily and Jovon. At one point, Jovon’s charismatic groomsmen asked to get in on the fun by holding my camera and lightstrobe, it was an absolute blast!

But the big surprise of the evening was a wedding exit unlike anything you have ever seen. Remember how I mentioned that the Museum of Flight is an active airport? As they headed off to the afterparty, Emily and Jovon planned an aerial take off. Guests were treated to fresh hot donuts for the take-off, courtesy of an outside waiting food truck, and everyone witnessed Emily and Jovon take to the skies as newlyweds. I cannot say enough about this amazing couple and the beautiful souls they are surrounded by. But, I can share the photos with you.
