We had such a blast shooting Marcus & Jenna’s Outdoorsy Seattle Engagement Photos at Discovery Park. Honestly, Discovery Park is such a favorite location with my clients for their engagement photos and it’s easy to see why! It’s a great place for couples with a sense of adventure, or couples who just love to be outdoors. There are plenty of little hidden gems throughout the park to walk around and explore. Aside from the fun of walking around the park for the day, moving around from spot to spot also creates a versatile set of engagement photos!
Marcus and Jenna have known each other since High School. But it wasn’t until their days at the University of Washington that they began dating. They just so happened to have multiple classes together and they found themselves hanging out more and more. You might also be surprised to know that it was actually Jenna who made the first move! However, when it came time to take their relationship to the next level, it was Marcus who came through with a beautiful surprise.

Jenna was in desperate need of a long weekend after the hustle of a busy work schedule. In her need for an escape, she began searching Airbnb hoping to find a nice location on Bainbridge Island. She found the perfect getaway for her and Marcus to enjoy. But it was in high demand and constantly fully booked! In spite of its popularity, Marcus constantly refreshed the site until a weekend popped open, and they booked it immediately! They were finally able to take some much-needed time off together and enjoyed a lovely day out. When they returned to their Airbnb that night, Marcus proposed. The proposal itself was very intimate and personal, with the picturesque view of their Bainbridge Island getaway in the backdrop.
From there Marcus and Jenna reached out to me. They expressed that were having a micro wedding with personal vows this fall at Salish Lodge. And the following year they would have a larger wedding with all of their family and friends in attendance. There was no doubt in my mind that we had to meet ahead of their wedding(s) to capture their engagement photos! When they told me that their wedding was going to have a PNW vibe to it, without a specific theme, I knew that Discovery Park would be an amazing location for outdoorsy Seattle engagement photos.
Typically, I encourage my clients to bring a prop or item with them to the session. Anything that has to do with their favorite hobby, or something that they enjoy together. For Marcus and Jenna, it was a volleyball! Jenna played for The Washington Huskies during her days at UW, and now she and Marcus enjoy playing volleyball recreationally together. We had fun incorporating the volleyball into the shoot, you’ll get to see the photos when you scroll through the blog below!
