This beautiful wedding at The Sunset Estate Tacoma honored the bride and groom’s Kenyan heritage, incorporating the country’s vibrant and celebratory wedding day traditions.
The Sunset Estate Tacoma
With incredible views of the Puget Sound, The Sunset Estate Tacoma is a unique wedding venue. The venue is the brainchild of former Atlanta Falcons player Desmond Trufant. The space offers short-term rentals along with extended stays while doubling as an all-in-one wedding venue. All in all, it is an ideal venue for hosting an intimate wedding day experience.
If you are looking for a Tacoma wedding venue and considering The Sunset Estate Tacoma, I highly recommend booking the venue for early fall or late summer. Your vows will be held outdoors, and the sunset view overlooking the Tacoma Narrows Bridge from the rooftop is nothing short of phenomenal. It’s also an exquisite space for couples who desire something outside the norm from their wedding venue.

Owing to its capacity and layout, The Sunset Estate Tacoma proved to be a space befitting Margaret & Ashford’s wedding day. But it was truly the details that made their wedding an immensely memorable day. Their day was lavish with tradition, celebration, and worship. It was beautiful to witness those who love Margaret and Ashford come together in such an uplifting manner to celebrate their union.
Wedding Day Details
When it was time to walk down the aisle, Margaret and Ashford came down together. A beautifully symbolic way for them to indicate how they chose to enter into their marriage. Their wedding party consisted of two bridesmaids and two groomsmen. But their extended friends and family were present during the photography experience. Margaret and Ashford referred to them as their “committee”.
Though friends and family traveled from Kenya to be with the couple, there was one person whose presence was sorely missed. Margaret’s daughter was unable to make the journey. But she was there, watching on livestream for the duration of the wedding. It was touching to see that no matter the distance, she would not be kept away from partaking in the merriment.

The entrance to the wedding ceremony was only superseded by the reception entrance. When it was time for Margaret and Ashford to be introduced to their guests, they danced into the venue as the MC beckoned guests with an interactive call-and-response experience. Singing and dancing accompanied the procession as family and friends greeted the newlyweds with hugs and handshakes.
But that was just the beginning of the celebration! Margaret and Ashford were treated to a performance by the choir as part of their wedding gift. Finally, to embody a long-standing folkloric Kenyan wedding tradition, one of their guests dressed up as an ‘elder’. Taking to the dance floor to share entertaining stories while bestowing blessings upon Margaret and Ashford’s marriage. I’ve included each of these moments and more in the photos below.
