Lori and Justin’s wedding at AXIS in Pioneer Square was a fabulous celebration of love.
When I begin working with my couples, one of the first things I ask is how they met. Lori and Justin’s love story started way back during the early months of the pandemic. Like so many of my couples, they met on Hinge! They bonded instantly over their shared love of cooking and dancing. As they got to know each other, they also swapped stories from their days spent in high school band. Wanting to keep things as safe as possible, their first few dates were spent in each other’s virtual presence. You have to love modern-day love stories for anecdotes like that!
Eventually, they moved things offline and decided on an in-person date in Beacon Hill. Fourth of July was the official date and they enjoyed a picnic together while exploring the area. They ended the day at Jefferson Park, watching the fireworks display. But Lori and Justin were out of there so quick because debris from the fireworks began to fall on them! Luckily, they were able to finish watching the fireworks display from Lori’s rooftop, minus the debris. Making their first date, in their own words, both awkward and perfect!
Two years into their relationship, Lori and Justin hit the road for Thanksgiving. They took a trip to visit Lori’s family for the holiday. But, little did Lori know, that Justin had reached out to her two sisters to gain their help planning a proposal! Lori’s sisters helped Justin select a location perfect for a proposal. One that was a nod to her childhood days.

The weekend before Thanksgiving, Lori, Justin, and Lori’s two sisters went for a ‘casual’ walk around the park. During their walk, Lori opened up to Justin and shared her childhood memories. Seizing the moment, Justin told Lori he could picture their future children playing in a place like this. With the ring on hand, Justin asked Lori if she would marry him. Lori’s sisters were several feet away, but the perfect distance to capture the moment for them! Lori said yes, and soon enough they were planning their wedding at AXIS in Pioneer Square.
When Justin & Lori reached out to me about photographing their wedding, I knew I wanted to meet them for an engagement session. We planned their session at Beacon Hill. Not only was Beacon Hill a nod to their first date, but it’s also the location of their favorite restaurant. We enjoyed “exploring” the area together. From there and over the next year, I checked in with them periodically as the details of their wedding day at AXIS in Pioneer Square began to unfold.
It’s always such an exhilarating process working with my couples. I get to see the behind-the-scenes process in the year leading up to their wedding. Then, when their day arrives, I am there to capture all of their wedding plans unfold as they say I do.
Lori and Justin were married on a spring day. Although you wouldn’t know it from looking at their photos, it was absolutely cold outside that day! However, there was plenty of gorgeous light, which was all I needed to work my magic. That light peeking through gave me the space I needed for a creative wedding photography experience. Some of my favorite moments were in Lori’s bridal suite as she dressed for the day with her mother and sisters at her side. I also particularly loved working with Lori and Justin on their first look and portraits in the streets just outside their venue.
Aside from their photography experience, Justin and Lori’s personalities were on full display in each of the wedding day details they planned. An amazing buffet hand-selected by Lori, and unique wedding stationery and signage designed by Justin. They also served their guests boba tea and mochi donuts; two of their personal favorites! And through it all their wedding party (siblings & lifelong friends) kept the energy high with their bubbly personalities! You’ll get to see how Justin’s “grooms woman” took the money dance to the next level (it involves a cape!), and everyone cutting loose on the dance floor, in the photos below.
