A beautiful summer wedding at the Abernethy Center in Portland, with a wedding ceremony at Abigail’s Garden.

I met my couple, Jermecia and Jonathan, back in the spring of 2022. At the time, this sweet couple was embarking on the adventure of a lifetime! They were newly engaged and planning a wedding. All the while, Jermecia was in the midst of deciding on where to attend graduate school. I knew that before long they would be moving. So I wanted to meet them in person to capture their engagement photos.

Having this time with my couples before their wedding day arrives is so crucial! It allows me to work with them, in front of the camera, ahead of the big day. But, it also allows me to get a closer look at the dynamic of their relationship. Jermecia and Jonathan made the trip from Oregon to Seattle for their engagement session with me at Discovery Park Beach. They were hitting the road for their cross-country move just after we wrapped the session, but I am so grateful that we managed to schedule this time together before they were off on a new life adventure.

With Jermecia and Jonathan relocated across the country (at least temporarily!), we kept in touch during their entire wedding planning process. There were Zoom meetings and quick hellos on social media leading up to the day of their wedding at the Abernethy Center in Portland. Once grad school was under her belt, Jermecia and Jonathan moved back to the PNW in anticipation of their wedding day, and beginning their life together as a married couple.

I have to say, one of the things that is so special about their relationship is how they do life together. From their cross-country move to finding a support system in one another. Jermecia and Jonathan approach everything, side by side. In fact, they surprised their guests on the day of their wedding when they came down the aisle of Abigail’s Garden, together. It was such a beautiful moment. For me, it was one of those moments that reminded me of the importance of my work as a wedding photographer. But, even more so than that, how honored I feel to be let into such an intimate aspect of my couple’s lives, through their wedding. In addition to the touching way Jermecia and Jonathan came down the aisle, their wedding day was filled with many personal touches. As a matter of fact, the officiant for their wedding ceremony was Jermecia’s mom! Isn’t that so special?

After having moved cross country, their wedding was the first time since their return, that Jermecia and Jonathan got to be in the presence of those they love, all while celebrating their unique love story. One thing is for sure, this sweet couple wanted to make sure that their guests had an amazing night and that their wedding was unforgettable! From a fabulous cocktail hour to lawn games, a photo booth, late-night bites, and hitting the dance floor, Jermecia and Jonathan left no stone unturned for their wedding day experience. Does it get any better than marrying the love of your life, snacking on late-night tacos and burgers; then being sent off in a flurry of bubbles? I don’t think it does!
