This black-tie Nigerian wedding at Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo was an unforgettable day of celebration and faith.

How They Met

Though their paths had crossed from time to time, it was at church that Yewande and Maero first truly noticed each other. It was later, at a worship concert, that they were given the chance to connect further. During the concert, Yewande was singing backup, and Maero was playing the drums and the keys. The day after the concert, a group lunch was planned and family & friends were in attendance. It was then that Maero officially asked Yewande for her number, paving the way for their first date. They soon made plans for a solo outing, solidifying their connection while allowing their relationship to grow over time.

A Perfectly Planned Proposal Aboard a South Lake Union Boat

A sunset boat proposal was in the not-so-distant future. Maero enlisted the help of his brother to rent a boat, and also invited his and Yewande’s siblings & friends to be present for the moment he popped the question. The scene was set for the surprise proposal. Amazing weather was on Maero’s side, and the golden hour light was the perfect added romantic touch to make the moment unforgettable. Maero asked Yewande for her hand in marriage, and she undoubtedly accepted.

Knowing that family and friends were waiting to celebrate with them in Nigeria, Yewande and Maero set out to host two separate weddings. Consequently, to get their paperwork in order, they opted for a Seattle courthouse wedding. This allowed them to become legally married before planning an epic celebration. In fact, their wedding in Nigeria was attended by around 700 guests. But it was their Rosehill Community Center Mukilteo wedding that I was present to capture.

Rosehill Community Center Mukilteo Wedding Ceremony on the Terrace

Yewande and Maero’s Rosehill Community Center Mukilteo wedding was a black tie ceremony and reception, with just over 200 guests present. Though they would have loved to invite more guests, they were limited by the venue’s capacity. Their Seattle wedding venue overlooked the waterfront, and the couple planned for a springtime fête, which aligned perfectly with their outdoor/indoor celebration.

The wedding featured a color palette of purple and green, an intimate-sized wedding party, cultural traditions, and beautiful, heartfelt moments shared with family and friends. When I first spoke with Yewande and Maero, they let me in on the more personal details of their wedding day, and most importantly, what they were looking forward to the most from their photography experience.

The Focus for Yewande & Maero’s Seattle Wedding Photos

It was evident that Yewande and Maero’s faith was at the very center of their relationship. It was their faith that brought them together, and the blessing at their ceremony, which they both looked forward to the most. I knew that capturing this moment during their ceremony was an essential part of their story.

Rosehill Community Center Mukilteo offers couples planning a wedding the ability to say I do on an outdoor terrace overlooking the water. Accordingly, it was here that Yewande and Maero received their blessing and were joined in marriage with their church community, friends, and family at their side.

Their overall goal when planning their wedding was for it to feel like a celebration. Music, dancing, blessings, laughter, and embraces were high on their list of photo priorities. Creating a day that felt like them, centered around their values.

There were arrangements of lush purple florals at every touch point of their wedding, from the time of arrival to their vows overlooking the Seattle waterfront, and their indoor reception celebration. Guests were greeted by Yewande and Maero’s romantic approach to wedding day decor. All in all, creating an elegant black tie experience at every turn.
