These Pike Place Market engagement photos with Emily & Jovon are filled with so much intention. To begin the session, I met with Emily and Jovon outside the State Hotel. The location where they first met.
I like to get all the details when I first meet my couples. I often ask how they met and what their first date was like. And most of all, I like to hear about the specifics of their proposal story. When I met with Emily and Jovon, they told me every detail of their beautiful story. They first met on the patio of Ben Paris at the State Hotel. Emily was out enjoying a girl’s night with some friends. Jovon just so happened to be in town for work and searching for a spot to grab a drink. Jovon spotted Emily and went over to introduce himself.
As luck would have it, Emily and Jovon met one another right before the pandemic threw everyone into lockdown. But they had a fun way to spend time with each other, with safety and social distancing in mind. Jovon is a pilot. So he would fly Emily out for private dates to Whidbey Island and the San Juan Islands! All of their time spent in flight and experiencing the idyllic islands of Washington State fostered love and connection in their relationship.
In fact, over time, Emily started to become excited at the idea of a proposal. When she and Jovon took a two-week trip to Europe together, she thought she might arrive home with a proposal story to share. But during the trip, the proposal didn’t come swiftly. That’s because Jovon had plans of his own. Well-intentioned plans that were expertly executed.

Each time he and Emily experienced a new location together (Munich, Amsterdam, London) Jovon photographed the ring “behind Emily’s back”. He then made an album detailing each photo from their trip. Jovon presented it to Emily and asked for her hand in marriage. Elated, Emily naturally said yes. Soon after their whirlwind trip to Europe, they returned home to begin planning their wedding.
They received my name from a family friend and reached out to me about their photography experience. After hearing their story, I suggested we meet at Pike Place Market for their engagement photos. I have to admit, Emily and Jovon arrived that day prepared to the “T”! Their level of preparedness let me know that we were about to have an amazing session.
It’s no surprise that Pike Place Market can get a little busy. So I focused on engagement photos at different locations throughout the marketplace. There are plenty of locations in and around the market that have less foot traffic and equally gorgeous views.
Needless to say, I had so much fun working with Emily and Jovon that day. Capturing their engagement photos while enjoying our stroll around the market allowed me to connect with them on a more personal level ahead of their wedding day. Emily and Jovon’s upcoming wedding will be held at the Museum of Flight, with a planned runway takeoff by the newlyweds at the end of the night. For now, you can see the details of their Pike Place Market engagement photos through the photos below.
