Whitney and Reidar are such an amazing couple and I was so excited to capture every moment of their colorful wedding in Arlington Washington! I met Whitney and Reidar in a very busy season of life. They were navigating life at the University of Virginia School of Law, where they attended together. I talked a bit more about that in their engagement session blog post. In addition to that they were planning their wedding and upcoming move back to the West Coast.
You might be wondering how two recent law school graduates managed to plan such a beautiful wedding, and I’ll let you in on one small secret. Whitney is a savvy bride! She scored her gown from a sample sale and put together a wedding full of jewel tones in such a beautiful way. I think having the love and support of her sisters along with her and Reidar’s friends from school really cemented the fun outdoorsy wedding they planned.
Every element of their wedding day had a personal touch. My favorite was the beautifully decorated gazebo, where Whitney and Reidar were joined in marriage. The facade of the gazebo was adorned with floral arrangements that perfectly matched the wedding party’s attire. Whitney encouraged her bridesmaids to select their own gowns and they totally knocked it out of the park!

Furthermore, the wedding day decor and color palette were just the beginning. Whitney and Reidar started the day with a first look and a private exchange of vows. The lush grounds of their wedding venue in Arlington Washington gave their private moment the feeling of being in a secret garden. An intimate moment for just the two of them to share before joining their guests.
When it was time to celebrate, Whitney and Reidar’s wedding reception had all the traditional elements, but with a twist! Their guests were treated to a fabulous BBQ dinner. This was a nod to their time at law school in Virginia, the state where southern BBQ was born. For an unexpected treat, snow cones were served with a side of whimsy. I managed to capture Whitney enjoying one, wedding dress and all!
There was a vintage photo booth, guests on the dance floor, and one last element that really set Whitney and Reidar’s wedding in Arlington Washington apart from all the rest! They knew they wanted a more modern, gender-inclusive version of a bouquet or garter toss. So they came up with the idea of having a t-shirt toss! Isn’t that so creative?! With the sun setting, I snuck them away one last time for a relaxed sunset portrait. You’ll get to see those moments, and more, in the photos below!
