Katie + Trevor’s wedding at WithinSodo in Seattle was a day filled with fun elements that matched their personalities!

Like so many of the other couples I work with, Katie and Trevor originally connected on a dating app! Once their connection was solidified, they wasted no time in scheduling their first date. However, Trevor was scheduled to go out of town just three days after their first date. His trip was going to keep him out of town for an entire month. But, as you can imagine Katie was skeptical of his whole story! I’m sure anyone who has dipped their toes in the pool of endless dating apps can relate to her skepticism. Trevor knew he wanted to grow his connection with Katie while he was away. So he made a point of calling her nearly every day. Isn’t that so sweet?!

Once Trevor returned, they decided to pick up where they left off, but the pandemic had other plans for them. Although, they weren’t going to let the circumstances sway them! In fact, the pandemic accelerated their relationship, bringing them closer to one another while also slowing down the outside world. Together, Katie and Trevor learned how to find their joy through the little things in life, and they quickly moved into together.

Navigating the pandemic while falling in love, and moving in together at an accelerated pace, there was one big step still awaiting Katie and Trevor. A proposal! Trevor wanted to surprise Katie and planned to propose on a summer night in their home. With the summer sun setting, Katie and Trevor were enjoying the view from their backyard when Trevor popped the question. Funny enough, during the summer months a flock of crows live near Katie & Trevor’s home! If you’re not familiar with this particular scenario, crows can be loud and drown out the tranquility associated with beautifully lazy summer evenings. But, Katie & Trevor’s two corgis used their “barking powers” to scare off the crows just long enough to give Trevor a peaceful moment to pop the question!

With their engagement solidified, Katie and Trevor began planning their wedding. They found their favorite part of wedding planning to be the amount of time they spent with one another. From their venue tour to the tasting with their caterer, their joy was in the journey. Katie and Trevor settled on a decision to host their wedding at WithinSodo in Seattle. WithinSodo has amazing rooftop views of the Seattle skyline, which I absolutely love for wedding portraits! But the space inside is also extremely versatile. Katie and Trevor used the venue to host their ceremony, cocktail hour, and wedding reception.

They found ways to infuse their sense of fun into each element of their wedding day. For their cocktail hour, they created an interactive trivia game for their guests! Katie is an elementary school teacher and she put together a group of her colleagues to act as the “school board” to grade the guests’ trivia. The winner received a prize basket full of goodies. Another unique element of Katie and Trevor’s wedding day was the dessert service. They decided to forgo the traditional cake cutting and opted instead to break cookies!
