Did you know that you can have a civil ceremony and bridal portrait session separately? Last year, during the middle of the pandemic when COVID-19 changed every aspect of how we live, that’s what a lot of couples did. So many couples were forced to decide if they’d rather wait until things were safely opened back up and large attendance weddings were allowed again. But for many, a “minimony” was just enough. According to the Knot.com, “a minimony is a mini ceremony held with your loved ones, or simply a moment of commitment shared between yourselves“. This new method of matrimony became especially popular last year when the restrictions on wedding ceremonies changed almost weekly.
Lyzanne, affectionately called ‘Lyz’ made plans at the local courthouse to marry her Sweetheart early September 2020. She found me online and wondered if I could cover the portraits afterward on a short notice. Of course! While on the phone she dropped the surprise that she was also pregnant with their first child. So we made sure to highlight her budding baby bump as well.
Lyz and Terry were so sweet together! She didn’t tell me that he was in the military so that made for bonus surprise too. I’m fairly familiar with almost every nook and cranny of Kubota Garden because I shoot there very often. So we picked some spots that were easy to walk to for mama and Terry, her new groom was there to help too! Their families and close friends joined us afterward for some family portraits with the newlyweds. Check out their adorable session below! It’s their one year anniversary this week!
